BMW has updated its i4 electric sedan for the 2026 model year. The following lines lay out the plain facts about the gains or losses in power and distance per charge.
The central change is a switch to more efficient silicon carbide inverters. The new inverters add miles to the distance certain trims cover on a full battery. BMW also replaces the former top trim, the i4 M50, with a quicker flagship called the i4 M60.
The rear-wheel-drive i4 eDrive40 now travels farther on the same 83.4-kWh battery. Fitted with 18-inch wheels, it covers an estimated 333 miles, 15 more than last year. With 19-inch wheels it covers 307 miles, up 12. Horsepower stays at 335.
The M60 is the new performance flagship - it uses one motor at each axle for a total of 593 horsepower, 57 above the old M50. The car reaches 60 mph from rest in 3.6 seconds. On 19-inch wheels it adds 11 miles of range - on 20-inch wheels it adds 5.
The non-M all-wheel-drive model now covers fewer miles per charge. A 2026 xDrive40 on 18-inch wheels is rated at 287 miles - on 19-inch wheels it drops to 268. Those numbers fall short of the 2025 figures by 15 miles and 19 miles respectively. Output remains 396 horsepower.
Pack size is still 83.4 kWh and peak DC charging stays at 200 kW. When plugged into a sufficiently strong fast charger, the car adds between 88 and 108 miles in about ten minutes.
BMW dealers in the United States are taking orders for the 2026 i4 now.
