Tuning specialist Brabus, known for its high-performance V8 vehicles, has ventured into the electric motorcycle market with three new models: the DAB 1a Brabus, Urban E, and Urban E First Edition. These bikes, developed in partnership with a French manufacturer, are designed for urban commuting but come with a price point that challenges conventional superbike expectations.

Key Takeaways

Brabus DAB 1a Brabus

The entry-level DAB 1a Brabus sports a stealthy black finish with exposed carbon fiber accents on the belly pan, front fender, and engine cover. It features matte black wheel covers and an Alcantara seat with gray stitching. Powering this model is a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery connected to a rear electric motor, delivering 31 hp and 291 lb-ft (395 Nm) of torque. Brabus claims a top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h) and a range that allows for speeds up to 93 mph (150 km/h) on a full charge. Charging from 20% to 100% takes approximately 3 hours using a standard household plug.

Brabus Urban E and Urban E First Edition

The Urban E model enhances performance with an upgraded motor producing 37 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque. It incorporates carbon-fiber air ducts to aid motor cooling and features gloss-black painted parts with red accents, alongside carbon-fiber wheel covers. Additional upgrades include vertical DRLs, a Supermoto-style handlebar with CNC-machined aluminum levers, keyless start, and multiple riding modes (Eco, Street, Sport, Nitrous, Reverse). The bike also boasts a fully adjustable suspension and upgraded Brembo brakes.

The Urban E First Edition shares all the features of the Urban E but is distinguished by its availability in four exclusive colors: Peetch, Desert Sand, Superviolet, and Fusion Red. Each color is limited to just 10 units worldwide.

Pricing and Market Positioning

Despite their urban focus and modest power output compared to gasoline superbikes, the Brabus electric bikes command premium prices. The DAB 1a Brabus starts at €16,590 (approximately $19,500 USD). The Urban E is priced from €20,800 (around $24,400 USD), and the limited-run Urban E First Edition is set at a steep €32,500 (about $38,100 USD).

To put these figures into perspective, a fully-equipped BMW S 1000 RR, a high-performance superbike with over 215 hp, can be purchased for around €25,000 (approximately $29,000 USD). This pricing strategy positions Brabus's electric offerings in a niche segment, appealing to those who prioritize unique design and brand prestige over outright performance metrics typically associated with their price point.
