Volkswagen is rolling out significant updates for its 2026 ID. Buzz electric van in Europe, including a substantial power increase and a much-needed return to physical buttons for the steering wheel. However, North American consumers will not see these enhancements for the 2026 model year, leaving them to wait for potential future updates.

Key Takeaways

Enhanced Performance and Capability

The most notable upgrade for the European market is the introduction of the ID. Buzz Pro 4Motion, boasting a dual-motor setup that delivers 335 horsepower. This all-wheel-drive variant comes with a 79 kWh battery for the short-wheelbase model and an 86 kWh pack for the long-wheelbase version. The addition of AWD also increases towing capacity, with the standard version capable of towing up to 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs), a significant jump from the rear-wheel-drive models.

Cabin Improvements and New Technology

Volkswagen has addressed common criticisms by redesigning the interior for better usability. The steering wheel now features traditional physical buttons, a welcome change from the previous touch-sensitive controls. While the touch sliders below the main screen remain, the overall cabin experience is expected to be more intuitive. The updated ID. Buzz also gains the latest Innovision infotainment system, which includes a cleaner interface and access to a new App Store for various applications like streaming, parking, and gaming. Furthermore, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality is now available, allowing the van to power external devices, and one-pedal driving is finally offered for a more efficient driving experience. Safety features have also been enhanced with the optional Connected Travel Assist, which includes traffic light recognition.

US Market Exclusion

Despite these significant improvements, the US market will not be receiving the 2026 ID. Buzz updates. Volkswagen has stated that North America will skip the 2026 model year entirely. There is a possibility that these enhancements could be applied to the US-spec ID. Buzz for the 2027 model year, but no official confirmation has been provided.

The updated 2026 VW ID. Buzz is slated to arrive in European and UK dealerships this summer.
