The second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos has been revealed, showing significant growth in size, technology, and capability. This analysis breaks down what prospective buyers need to know about this updated small SUV.
The 2027 Seltos is physically larger. It rides on a 2.3-inch longer wheelbase and is wider, which translates directly to more passenger room. Cargo capacity has also increased, now offering up to 64.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The exterior and interior design borrow heavily from larger Kia models, giving it a more premium appearance. Inside, the gear shifter has been moved from the center console to the steering column, a design choice that frees up space for storage and wireless charging.
While existing gasoline engines are expected to carry over, the major news is the introduction of two hybrid models. A standard front-wheel-drive hybrid will likely use the 1.6-liter engine and electric motor combination from the Kia Niro. A more powerful electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) version will also be offered, which adds a second electric motor to the rear axle. This setup provides all-wheel-drive traction without a physical driveshaft connecting the front and rear, and it is expected to deliver stronger performance.
Yes. The available all-wheel-drive system now includes a Multi-Terrain Control system with specific modes for Snow, Mud, and Sand. This system adjusts engine power, transmission shifting, and the all-wheel-drive clutch to optimize traction in various conditions. Furthermore, ground clearance has been increased to a maximum of 8.1 inches, providing better capability on rougher roads compared to its predecessor.
The Seltos receives a significant technology upgrade, featuring an available panoramic dashboard with two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment. This system is capable of over-the-air (OTA) software updates, ensuring the vehicle's systems remain current. A full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems is also available, including forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and intelligent speed limit warnings.
The Seltos is positioned as a more dynamic and feature-rich alternative in the small SUV segment. Compared to a key rival like the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, the Seltos, particularly the e-AWD hybrid model, is expected to offer superior performance and a more adventurous character. It aims to attract buyers who value style and driving engagement alongside practicality, potentially at the expense of topping fuel efficiency charts.
