The upcoming BMW X7 is set to undergo a significant transformation, blending the brand's established luxury with its evolving "Neue Klasse" design language. Spy shots and artist renderings reveal a more futuristic exterior, featuring a reworked front and rear fascia, and innovative flush door handles. Inside, the large three-row SUV will debut BMW's latest iDrive system, signaling a shift towards a more digital and streamlined user experience.
The next-generation X7, internally codenamed G67, is poised for a substantial visual update. While retaining its imposing three-row SUV proportions, the exterior will adopt cleaner, more sculpted lines. The front end will feature revised split headlights, with the upper daytime running lights appearing wider. Despite the move towards BMW's newer design ethos, the signature oversized kidney grilles are expected to remain, now enhanced with horizontal slats and LED illumination.
A particularly striking change will be the elimination of traditional door handles. In their place, small flush fins will be integrated just below the side windows, a design element previously seen on limited-run BMW models like the Skytop and Speedtop. This move not only contributes to a sleeker aesthetic but may also improve aerodynamic efficiency.
The rear of the X7 will also be entirely new, with renderings suggesting taillight designs similar to those found on the new iX3. The split tailgate design is likely to carry over, though this remains unconfirmed.
Inside, the redesigned cabin will be a showcase for BMW's latest technology. The highlight will be the debut of the Panoramic iDrive system, which integrates a full-width head-up display at the base of the windshield and a large, tablet-like infotainment screen. This system emphasizes touchscreen interaction and an advanced voice assistant, likely reducing the number of physical controls.
Despite these technological advancements, the X7 will continue to offer three rows of seating, accommodating up to seven passengers, reinforcing its position as BMW's flagship family vehicle.
The second-generation X7 is anticipated to launch in the latter half of 2027, with production potentially commencing in the summer or fall of that year. Looking further ahead, there are discussions about BMW potentially introducing an even larger SUV, the X9, to compete with rivals like the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator, suggesting the X7 might soon share the top spot in BMW's SUV hierarchy.
