Honda enthusiasts in North America can now achieve the coveted Mugen look on their HR-V. Following the introduction of the rugged ZR-V Cross Touring trim in Japan, Mugen has updated its aerodynamic parts, making them a direct fit for the US-spec HR-V without the need for custom modifications. This development allows owners to enhance their compact SUV with Mugen's signature sporty aesthetic.
When the current generation Honda HR-V launched in North America, its distinct front-end design, featuring a honeycomb grille and black bumper garnishes, prevented the fitment of Mugen's original aero parts, which were designed for the global ZR-V's more aggressive styling. However, the introduction of the 2026 ZR-V Cross Touring in Japan, with a body kit closely resembling the North American HR-V's rugged appearance, prompted Mugen to revise its offerings. The result is a new kit that seamlessly bolts onto the US-spec HR-V.
The updated Mugen kit introduces a redesigned front bumper extension with aluminum-style inserts, subtly reshaped to complement the intake garnish. While many components remain similar to the existing catalog, they are now available in a matte black finish, enhancing the HR-V's tougher aesthetic. Additional exterior upgrades include sharper side skirts, new mirror caps, aerodynamic extensions for the roof spoiler and rear bumper, and an optional faux spoiler on the tailgate. Buyers can also opt for black decals and window visors to further personalize their vehicle.
Beyond aesthetics, Mugen offers functional upgrades for the HR-V. New gunmetal 19-inch aluminum wheels are available, complementing existing multi-spoke designs. These can be paired with Yamaha-tuned Performance Dampers, designed to improve ride quality and sharpen handling. The Japanese-spec ZR-V's 181 hp self-charging hybrid powertrain remains unchanged, but Mugen offers a stainless steel sports exhaust system with quad tailpipes for a more assertive sound. Interior enhancements are more subtle, including branded floor mats, luggage mats, and scuff plates.
The full range of Mugen upgrades for the 2026 Honda ZR-V is available in Japan. Pricing varies, with the front bumper extension for the Cross Touring costing approximately $690. Other components like side skirts are around $650, rear skirts $550, and the roof spoiler extension $240. More significant upgrades include the Sports Exhaust for about $2,100 and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels for $1,800. Performance Dampers are priced at $900. While these parts are officially for the Japanese market, enthusiasts in North America may be able to source them through specialized importers.
