Images of the highly anticipated Volkswagen ID. Polo and its sportier GTI variant have surfaced online, appearing ahead of their official spring unveiling. These leaked visuals offer an early glimpse at the electric hatchbacks, which closely resemble the ID.2all concept but with more conventional styling cues.
The leaked images reveal that the ID. Polo adopts a design that closely mirrors the ID.2all concept, albeit with a more traditional grille and headlight arrangement. Larger door-mounted mirrors and less aggressive bodywork are also evident. The ID. Polo GTI distinguishes itself with a sportier front bumper featuring a honeycomb mesh intake, vertical daytime running lights, and signature red "GTI" badging.
Volkswagen has confirmed the dimensions for the ID. Polo: 160.0 inches (4,053 mm) long, 71.5 inches (1,816 mm) wide, and 60.2 inches (1,530 mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 102.4 inches (2,600 mm). While similar in size to the current Polo, the electric version boasts a slightly longer interior, offering improved headroom and rear legroom. The cargo space is also generous, with 15.4 cubic feet (435 liters) expandable to 43.9 cubic feet (1,243 liters) with the rear seats folded.
Inside, the ID. Polo will feature a minimalist design highlighted by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment system. A two-spoke steering wheel, physical switchgear, and metallic accents are also part of the cabin's aesthetic.
Built on the MEB+ platform, the ID. Polo will be powered by front-mounted electric motors. The standard ID. Polo will come in three power outputs: 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS), 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS), and 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS). The ID. Polo GTI is slated to arrive a year later, boasting 223 hp (166 kW / 226 PS).
Battery options include a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate unit for the lower-powered variants, paired with a 90 kW DC fast charging capability. Higher-performance models will utilize a larger 52 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery, promising up to 280 miles (450 km) of range and supporting faster 130 kW DC charging.
The ID. Polo lineup is expected to debut soon, with Volkswagen previously indicating a starting price of approximately €25,000 (around $28,810).
