Kia has officially presented the second-generation Seltos, scheduled for its North American debut at the New York Auto Show. The updated subcompact SUV arrives with a larger physical footprint, a completely redesigned exterior and interior, and an expanded range of powertrain options that now includes a hybrid variant. This new model aims to strengthen its position in a highly competitive market segment.
The most immediate change is the Seltos's exterior design, which now aligns closely with larger models in Kia's lineup, such as the Sportage and Telluride. The front end features a wider grille and split LED lighting units, creating a more assertive presence. The vehicle's profile has adopted a boxier, more traditional SUV shape with sculpted fenders and flush-mounted door handles. At the rear, the lighting signature borrows cues from the electric EV5, utilizing slim, vertically and horizontally arranged LED elements.
The new Seltos has grown in size. It is 45 mm longer than its predecessor, now measuring 4,430 mm in total length. More significantly, its wheelbase—the distance between the front and rear wheels—has been extended by 60 mm to 2,690 mm. This increase generally contributes to a smoother ride and provides the foundation for a more spacious cabin. The lineup will include distinct trims like the sporty GT-Line and the rugged X-Line, each with unique bumper and trim details.
The interior has undergone a significant technological upgrade, centered around a panoramic curved display. This single panel houses two 12.3-inch screens: one for the driver's digital instrument cluster and another for the central infotainment system. The system supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, which allow the vehicle's software to be updated wirelessly, similar to a smartphone, without a trip to the dealership.
Available features include an AI-powered voice assistant, premium sound systems from Harman Kardon or Bose, and a panoramic sunroof. The larger exterior dimensions translate directly to improved interior utility. Cargo capacity has increased to 536 liters, offering substantial space for luggage and equipment. A dual-level boot floor adds another layer of flexibility for organizing stored items.
For global markets, Kia has confirmed several engine choices. The lineup includes a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower and a 1.6-liter turbocharged unit available in 178 hp and 190 hp outputs. The most notable addition is a self-charging hybrid powertrain. This system uses the gasoline engine and energy recovered during braking to charge a small battery, which then assists the engine to improve fuel efficiency without requiring external charging.
While the specific powertrains for the North American market will be confirmed at the New York debut, the inclusion of the hybrid option is highly anticipated. The comprehensive updates to the 2027 Seltos position it as a more mature and technologically advanced vehicle, enhancing its appeal against a growing field of subcompact SUV competitors.
