The new Maybach S-Class is not merely an upgraded S-Class; it is a re-engineered limousine focused on ultimate passenger luxury. Key exterior changes include a larger, vertically slatted front grille where the 'Maybach' name is now illuminated. Accents on the headlights, Mercedes star, and Maybach logo are finished in rose gold, distinguishing it visually. The primary focus is on the rear passenger experience, with significant enhancements to create a quieter, more comfortable cabin.
Mercedes will offer the Maybach S-Class with several petrol engine options, including an inline-six and a V8. The highly anticipated V12 engine will return, but its availability is limited to select countries. It is understood that the United Kingdom will not be one of the markets receiving the V12 variant. This strategy allows the brand to cater to different regional demands and emission standards while preserving its most powerful engine for key markets.
The main competitor is the Bentley Spur. While both vehicles represent the pinnacle of automotive luxury, they cater to slightly different priorities. The Maybach S-Class is engineered with an uncompromising focus on rear-seat passenger comfort. This is evident in features like extra sound insulation and a dedicated 'Maybach' drive mode, which adjusts the car's systems for the smoothest possible ride. The Bentley Spur, while also exceptionally luxurious, often places a greater emphasis on the driving experience. The Maybach also offers a vast level of personalization, with over 150 exterior paint colors and more than 400 interior choices available.
Beyond the redesigned grille, a new aerodisc-style wheel design composed entirely of Maybach logos makes a strong statement. Inside, the cabin receives extra insulation to minimize noise, vibration, and harshness from the road and engine. The new Maybach drive mode is a specific vehicle setting that prioritizes a serene ride for passengers above all else. In a notable first for the brand, buyers can now opt for high-quality artificial leather and cloth upholstery as alternatives to traditional leather, reflecting a shift in luxury material trends.
