Chevrolet provided a first look at the upcoming 2027 Corvette Grand Sport during a special event at the Sebring International Raceway. The new model led a parade of its historic namesakes, celebrating a 60-year legacy. Full details are scheduled for release on March 26.
The previewed C8 Grand Sport clearly borrows from its high-performance siblings. It features the wider bodywork seen on the Z06 and E-Ray models, giving it a more aggressive stance. Traditional Grand Sport red hash marks are present, but they have been moved from the front fenders to the rear, just ahead of the rear wheels, reflecting the car's mid-engine layout. A distinct center-exit exhaust system further differentiates it from the standard Stingray.
The Grand Sport name has historically represented a specific formula within the Corvette lineup. It typically combines the wider, more aerodynamic body and chassis components from the top-tier Z06 model with a powerful, yet distinct, V8 engine. This creates a balanced vehicle focused on handling and track capability. Past examples, like the C6 and C7 generations, successfully paired Z06-style bodies with potent naturally aspirated engines, offering a unique performance package.
While official specifications are pending, industry reports suggest the 2027 Grand Sport may receive a unique engine. Speculation points to a new 6.7-liter, Gen-6 small-block V8, a next-generation version of Chevrolet's classic engine architecture, potentially producing over 535 horsepower. This would position it significantly above the standard 495-horsepower Stingray. There is also talk of a possible "Grand Sport X" variant, which could incorporate an electric front-drive system, creating an all-wheel-drive hybrid model.
The Grand Sport is expected to fill the gap between the Corvette Stingray with the Z51 package and the track-focused Z06. It will appeal to drivers seeking enhanced track performance and aggressive styling without the higher cost and specialized flat-plane crank engine of the Z06. Its primary role is to offer a more accessible track-day car that remains highly capable for road use, competing with European sports cars in a similar performance bracket. The official reveal will confirm its final specifications and pricing.
