Toyota has commenced sales of the new Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand, the same country where the vehicle is assembled. The compact off-roader is built on a ladder-frame chassis and enters the Thai market with a single high-specification trim level, priced at 1,269,000 Baht.
The Land Cruiser FJ for the Thai market is equipped with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. This non-electrified unit produces 164 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. Power is managed by a six-speed automatic transmission and delivered through a part-time four-wheel-drive system. This system allows the driver to select two-wheel drive for on-road efficiency or engage four-wheel drive for off-road situations. A rear differential lock is included to provide enhanced traction on difficult terrain. The vehicle is based on the IMV ladder-frame architecture, a robust platform known for its durability and use in utility vehicles.
The vehicle's dimensions are tailored for maneuverability, with a total length of 4,610 mm and a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. Its off-road credentials are confirmed by a ground clearance of 245 mm and a water-wading depth of 700 mm. Standard equipment on the launch model includes 18-inch alloy wheels and full LED lighting. The interior features a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and synthetic leather upholstery.
At the launch event, Toyota showcased four distinct concept versions of the Land Cruiser FJ: the Meridian, Nature Explorer, Legendary, and Street Cruiser. These models were modified with a combination of official Toyota accessories and components from established aftermarket brands like ARB and Old Man Emu. This presentation highlights Toyota's strategy to promote personalization, offering owners a wide range of options to adapt the vehicle for specific purposes, from serious overlanding to sporty urban use. In addition to individual parts, Toyota offers bundled accessory packages for buyers.
In Thailand, the Land Cruiser FJ's price places it slightly above the top-tier Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport and the entry-level Fortuner SUV. It is positioned as a more affordable option compared to higher-specification variants of the new Hilux pickup. By offering a purpose-built, body-on-frame vehicle at this price point, Toyota provides a distinct alternative to the more common unibody crossover SUVs that occupy a similar segment of the market.
