Fiat is making a surprising strategic pivot, introducing a manual-only petrol version of its 600 model. This move comes as the automotive industry increasingly focuses on hybrid and electric vehicles, with Fiat seemingly charting a different course for this particular offering. The new petrol variant aims to cater to drivers seeking a more direct and engaging experience behind the wheel.
The Fiat 600 Petrol is designed for "customers who enjoy a simple, direct and engaging driving experience." While specific details remain somewhat guarded, the engine features a variable-geometry turbocharger, a silent timing chain, and a high-pressure direct injection system. It delivers 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) and is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. This powertrain is expected to be similar to that found in the Grande Panda, suggesting a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine.
The petrol engine will be accessible across all trim levels. The entry-level 600 Petrol Pop is anticipated to come equipped with LED lighting and 16-inch steel wheels. Inside, expect a functional cabin featuring a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment system, and automatic climate control. Higher trims will offer enhancements such as 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome accents, tinted rear windows, ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a wireless smartphone charger, and optional leather seats.
To commemorate the arrival of the petrol model, Fiat has unveiled the special "Street Edition." This limited-run variant boasts a striking two-tone exterior, highlighted by a gloss black grille, black door handles, and black badging. It also features black 18-inch alloy wheels and distinctive "Street" lettering in red and chrome.
The dark aesthetic extends to the interior, with a black dashboard and headliner. Complementing these are black seats adorned with "FIAT" lettering, white contrast stitching, and "600" badging. Production of the Street Edition will be capped at 2,000 units, though pricing information has not yet been released.
