The BackCountry is a new trim level for the Ram 1500, positioned to fill the gap between the more basic Warlock and the more advanced Rebel models. It starts as a Big Horn 4x4 Crew Cab and adds a specific package to enhance both its off-road capability and its interior comfort. It is designed for buyers who want a rugged look and real off-road hardware without the full cost of the top-tier Rebel.
The BackCountry package includes the key components from Ram's Off-Road Group. This means it has a 1.0-inch suspension lift for better ground clearance and heavy-duty shock absorbers. It rides on 32-inch all-terrain tires. For serious traction, it includes an electronic locking rear differential, which forces both rear wheels to spin at the same speed to prevent getting stuck in low-traction situations. It also has Selec‑Speed Control, which acts as a low-speed cruise control for navigating tricky terrain. Underbody skid plates protect the front suspension, steering rack, transfer case, and fuel tank from damage.
Beyond its off-road gear, the truck is built for utility. The package incorporates features from the Bed Utility Group, such as a spray-in bedliner, adjustable cargo tie-downs, a bed step for easy access, and a 115-volt power outlet in the bed. The interior is designed for durability with tough black vinyl bucket seats. The seatbacks feature a MOLLE panel system, which is a grid of webbing for attaching various storage pouches and gear, adding to its everyday practicality.
Buyers must choose one of two equipment groups to add to the BackCountry. Equipment Group 1 adds comfort features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and power-adjustable pedals. It also includes a power-sliding rear window. Stepping up to Equipment Group 2 significantly upgrades the technology. It provides a larger 12-inch Uconnect 5 central touchscreen, a 7-inch digital display for the driver, Off-Road Info Pages on the screen, a 10-way power driver's seat, and dual wireless phone charging pads. This group transforms the rugged truck into a more modern and comfortable vehicle for daily use.
