Recent spy shots confirm that Mercedes-AMG is developing a high-performance electric version of the C-Class. This new model features a fastback design, an active spoiler, and a powertrain expected to produce nearly 800 horsepower. It is built on a new, dedicated electric vehicle platform and will compete directly with upcoming performance EVs from BMW and Audi.

New Design and AMG Features

The prototype departs from the traditional C-Class sedan shape with a sleeker fastback profile. AMG-specific details are visible even under camouflage, including large forged alloy wheels that cover massive drilled brake rotors. A key feature is a pop-up active spoiler at the rear, designed to improve stability at high speeds. The vehicle also showcases Mercedes' new star-themed daytime running lights, a signature element for its next generation of electric cars.

Under the Skin: The MB.EA Platform

The performance C-Class EV will use the new MB.EA architecture, a platform designed exclusively for electric vehicles. This foundation supports an 800-volt electrical system. A higher voltage system like this allows for significantly faster charging times compared to the more common 400-volt systems found in many current EVs. Power is expected to come from a tri-motor setup, potentially delivering up to 789 horsepower (800 PS). This configuration, likely with one motor on the front axle and two at the rear, enables advanced all-wheel drive and precise power distribution for enhanced handling. While standard models with the 94 kWh battery may offer up to 497 miles of range, the AMG version will likely sacrifice some range for its increased performance.

The Electric Performance Sedan Battle

The arrival of an electric AMG C-Class signals a new era for performance sedans. It will face stiff competition from its historic rivals. BMW is preparing its own high-performance electric sedan based on the Neue Klasse platform, which is expected to be an electric successor to the M3. Audi is also anticipated to introduce a performance version of its electric A4. This places the new Mercedes directly in the center of an emerging battle for electric sport sedan supremacy.

The official unveiling of the standard electric C-Class lineup is expected later this year, with the AMG model to follow. This vehicle represents a significant step for the brand, combining a new design direction with formidable electric powertrain technology.
