Porsche is preparing an update for its popular Cayenne SUV, focusing on enhancing its hybrid powertrains and incorporating design elements from the iconic 911 Turbo. Spy shots reveal prototypes testing with improved performance and efficiency, signaling that the combustion-engine Cayenne still has a significant future.
Fresh spy images showcase two distinct Cayenne E-Hybrid prototypes undergoing rigorous testing. One appears to be a standard or S E-Hybrid model, while the other, a more aggressive-looking Turbo E-Hybrid, hints at significant performance upgrades. The Turbo E-Hybrid prototype notably features vertical active cooling slats in the front bumper, a design feature previously seen on the 911 GTS and 911 Turbo S, suggesting improved thermal management for enhanced performance.
While the exact specifications are yet to be confirmed, the updated hybrid powertrains are expected to deliver more horsepower and a greater electric-only driving range. The current Cayenne E-Hybrid boasts 464 hp and around 50 miles of electric range, while the Turbo E-Hybrid offers a formidable 729 hp with approximately 42 miles of electric range. These figures are likely to see an increase with the upcoming refresh.
Although the interiors of the prototypes are heavily camouflaged, there's speculation that Porsche might introduce a dashboard layout similar to the new Cayenne Electric, featuring a more screen-centric design. Despite the growing emphasis on electrification, Porsche has reaffirmed its commitment to its internal combustion engine and hybrid models, indicating that the Cayenne will continue to offer these options for years to come.
