The Ferrari Amalfi Spider is the new convertible version of the brand's front-engined V8 sports car, an evolution of the Roma Spider. It is equipped with an upgraded twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 engine that produces 631 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque. This positions the vehicle as a high-performance grand tourer designed for both spirited driving and open-air cruising.
The folding roof mechanism adds 86 kilograms to the car's weight, for a total dry weight of 1556 kilograms. Despite this increase, the Amalfi Spider achieves a 0-62 mph time of 3.3 seconds, matching its hard-top coupé sibling. This performance is maintained through the powerful engine and significant aerodynamic enhancements. A new active rear wing adjusts automatically, generating up to 110 kg more downforce at 155 mph while simultaneously reducing drag by 4% compared to the previous design.
Ferrari has engineered the soft-top for both speed and convenience. The roof can be fully raised or lowered in 13.5 seconds, and this operation can be performed while the car is moving at speeds up to 37 mph. To improve passenger comfort when the roof is open, an electric wind deflector is positioned behind the seats. This can be raised to minimize turbulence inside the cabin. The design of the soft-top also ensures the car's silhouette remains aerodynamically efficient when closed.
The Amalfi Spider enters a competitive market segment, with its primary rival being the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster. Both are front-engined V8 convertibles offering a blend of luxury and performance. The Ferrari distinguishes itself with a focus on cutting-edge aerodynamics and raw power, as evidenced by its performance figures and active aero components. Market positioning will ultimately be determined by driving experience and brand preference, but its specifications give it a strong competitive stance.
Official pricing for the Amalfi Spider has not yet been announced by Ferrari. It is expected to carry a price premium over the Amalfi coupé, which has a starting price of approximately £202,000. First customer deliveries are anticipated to begin in the coming months.
