Yes - after many years spent almost entirely on crossovers, SUVs and pickups, Ford now states that it will release new passenger cars. The firm earlier dropped well known European nameplates like Fiesta, Focus besides Mondeo. The revised tactic targets selected, money making parts of the car market rather than every niche.
Ford does not build everything anew - it works with the French car maker Renault to accelerate the job. Ford will take Renault's Ampr EV platform, the base frame already used for upcoming electric Renault 4 and Renault 5. A vehicle platform holds shared parts like the chassis and powertrain. An existing, tested platform cuts both development time and expense.
Official lists remain incomplete but an electric successor to the absent Fiesta is viewed as one of the first arrivals. Rumours also point to a new electric crossover that may later replace the Puma Gen-E. Ford says it will fund vehicles with varied propulsion - buyers should find both pure electric and hybrid choices.
Deliveries will not start tomorrow - ford managers in Germany indicate that the fresh passenger range is set to enter the market from 2027 onward. This gap leaves space to finish design work and set up production with the new partner.
The new cars aimed at Europe will almost certainly stay away from U.S. showrooms. At present, Mustang is the lone traditional passenger car Ford offers in America. The chief executive has voiced interest in a future U.S. sedan but such a plan will proceed only if the venture promises clear profit.
