Genesis has officially entered the high-performance vehicle segment with the introduction of the GV60 Magma. This model is the first to carry the new Magma designation, a sub-brand focused on combining powerful driving dynamics with the luxury attributes Genesis is known for. The GV60 Magma serves as a clear statement of the brand's future direction.
The Magma brand is positioned differently from its corporate cousin, Hyundai's N division. While N models are often track-focused, Magma aims to enhance the core characteristics of a Genesis vehicle without compromising its balance of comfort and refinement. The objective is to deliver formidable performance within a package of premium luxury. This new division will leverage learnings from Genesis's future motorsports activities to enhance its road cars.
At the heart of the GV60 Magma is an advanced electric powertrain. It utilizes an 84kWh battery pack that powers dual electric motors. In standard operation, the system produces a combined 601 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. A "Boost" function, available for 15-second intervals, temporarily increases output to 641 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. This allows the GV60 Magma to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds using launch control. The vehicle's top speed is electronically limited to 164 mph. To support this performance, engineers have optimized the cooling systems and adjusted the motor inverters for sustained high-speed operation.
The GV60 Magma is visually distinguished from the standard model by an aggressive bodykit. The vehicle sits 20mm lower and has a 50mm wider track, creating a more planted stance. Key aerodynamic features include a prominent rear wing designed to generate actual downforce and unique fin-like details at its ends. The front fascia is redesigned for improved cooling and airflow. The package is completed by 21-inch forged wheels fitted with high-performance Pirelli P Zero Elect tires, specifically designed for electric vehicles.
To manage the increased power, the GV60 Magma's chassis has been significantly upgraded. It features new electronic suspension control for improved body control and revised bushings in the front and rear suspension for sharper responses. The braking system has been enlarged, with 400mm front discs and monoblock calipers providing increased stopping power. For enthusiast drivers, a dedicated Drift Mode is included, which biases power delivery to the rear axle. Drivers can select from three main driving modes: Sprint, GT, and a customizable MY mode.
Inside, the cabin reflects the Magma brand's dual focus on performance and luxury. Surfaces are trimmed in Chamude, a material similar to Alcantara, accented with orange and grey stitching. The driver is presented with a Magma-specific user interface that displays key performance data such as motor temperatures and G-forces. Despite its performance credentials, comfort remains a priority. The vehicle is equipped with Active Noise Control and soundproof glass to minimize road noise, ensuring a refined interior environment even with wider tires.
