BYD is set to significantly boost the appeal of its Atto 3 crossover with a substantial update for the 2026 model year, dubbed the Atto 3 Evo. This refresh introduces a dramatic increase in power, improved charging capabilities, and extended range, aiming to make the electric vehicle more competitive in global markets.
The BYD Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus in many regions, was one of BYD's initial export models. While the previous version offered adequate performance for its time, the 2026 Atto 3 Evo represents a leap forward. The standard model now features a rear-wheel-drive setup with 308 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds. For those seeking maximum performance, the all-wheel-drive variant boasts a dual-motor system delivering a formidable 443 horsepower, achieving the same 0-62 mph sprint in a mere 3.9 seconds. This is more than double the output of the outgoing model.
Beyond the power surge, the Atto 3 Evo benefits from a larger 75 kWh battery, replacing the previous 60 kWh unit. This upgrade extends the estimated WLTP range to 317 miles, a notable increase from the previous 261 miles. Charging performance has also seen a significant boost, with the maximum charging speed now reaching 220 kW. This allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes, partly attributed to the adoption of an 800V electrical architecture.
Visually, the Atto 3 Evo retains its familiar silhouette, with subtle refinements to interior and exterior elements, along with new color and wheel options. A practical addition is the inclusion of a frunk, offering additional storage space. The charging port has been relocated from the front fender to the rear passenger side. While the Atto 3 Evo is unlikely to be released in the U.S. market, its advancements underscore BYD's commitment to enhancing its global offerings. The updated specifications bring the Atto 3 Evo closer to the performance benchmarks set by established EVs like the Tesla Model Y, potentially making it a strong contender in its segment if pricing remains competitive.
