Recent reports indicate that Apple is preparing to expand its premium 'Ultra' branding to two new flagship product categories: a foldable iPhone and a high-end MacBook. This move, corroborated by information from sources familiar with Apple's plans, suggests a strategic push into the top-tier market segment, following the introduction of the Apple Watch Ultra.
The rumored foldable device, potentially named 'iPhone Ultra' instead of the widely speculated 'iPhone Fold,' is expected to be a significant evolution in Apple's smartphone lineup. The device is projected to feature a book-style folding mechanism with a crease-free internal display. Leaked specifications point to a 7.8-inch inner screen complemented by a 5.5-inch outer display for quick access.
Under the hood, the iPhone Ultra is anticipated to be powered by a next-generation A20 Pro chip and feature a new C2 cellular modem for enhanced connectivity. To leverage the larger, foldable screen, the device will likely run a version of iOS 27 with custom features designed for side-by-side application use. Security is expected to be handled by a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button. The launch is reportedly targeted for this fall, alongside the iPhone 18 series.
In the laptop domain, Apple is also rumored to be developing a 'MacBook Ultra.' This model is positioned as a new top-of-the-line offering, potentially replacing what was previously anticipated to be the M6 MacBook Pro. The MacBook Ultra is expected to introduce several major hardware upgrades, including a touchscreen and an OLED display for superior contrast and color accuracy.
Further design changes may include a new industrial aesthetic and the replacement of the display notch with a Dynamic Island, bringing it in line with the current iPhone Pro models. Like its smartphone counterpart, the MacBook Ultra might also incorporate a C2 cellular modem for on-the-go connectivity. While a launch is targeted for this year, sources suggest it could be pushed to early 2027.
