YouTube is giving users more control over their viewing experience by allowing them to effectively turn off the Shorts feed. This new option, an expansion of existing time management tools, enables users to set a zero-minute limit for Shorts, removing them from their app.

Key Takeaways

Enhanced Time Management For Users

Previously, YouTube's time management settings offered a minimum limit of 15 minutes for Shorts. The update introduces a zero-minute option, which was initially planned for parents to control their children's screen time. According to a YouTube spokesperson, this feature is now live for all parents and is being progressively rolled out to all users, regardless of age.

How To Disable Shorts

For users looking to reduce their time spent on short-form video content, setting the Shorts timer to zero is a straightforward process. Navigate to the settings within the YouTube app, select "Time management," then toggle on the "Shorts feed limit" and choose zero minutes. Once the time limit is reached, the Shorts tab will no longer display videos. Instead, users will see a notification indicating they have "reached your Shorts feed limit." In testing, this also removes Shorts from the Home screen, allowing for a completely Shorts-free experience if desired.

A Welcome Change For Many

This new functionality is a significant addition for individuals who wish to curate their YouTube experience and minimize distractions from the popular short-form video format. By offering a complete bypass, YouTube acknowledges the diverse viewing preferences of its user base.
