Hyundai has officially unveiled the Ioniq 3, a new compact electric hatchback designed exclusively for the European market. This stylish EV boasts a modern design and introduces Hyundai's innovative Pleos Connect Infotainment system, featuring a welcome return of physical buttons for user convenience. While it shares a design language with concepts like the Genesis GV60, the Ioniq 3 is significantly smaller, positioning it as a practical urban mobility solution.

Key Takeaways

Design and Dimensions

The Ioniq 3 adopts Hyundai's 'Art of Steel' design language, giving it a sharp and contemporary appearance. Despite its resemblance to larger models, it measures 163.6 inches in length, making it considerably more compact than the Genesis GV60. Its aerodynamic profile contributes to a drag coefficient of 0.263.

Powertrain and Performance

Built on Hyundai's E-GMP 400-volt architecture, the Ioniq 3 is powered by a single front motor. The Standard Range model delivers 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 42.2-kWh battery offering an estimated 213 miles of WLTP range. The Long Range variant features a larger 61.0-kWh battery and produces 135 horsepower, achieving up to 308 miles of range. Both models are electronically limited to 105 mph, with the Standard Range model accelerating to 62 mph in 9.0 seconds and the Long Range in 9.6 seconds.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Ioniq 3 is the first European vehicle to feature the Pleos Connect Infotainment system. This system runs on Android Automotive OS and is available with either a 12.9-inch or a 14.6-inch touchscreen, depending on the trim level, including an N Line variant. Unlike some recent Hyundai models that have gone button-less, the Ioniq 3 includes a row of physical buttons below the screen for essential functions like heated seats, climate control, fan speed, HVAC mode, and a volume knob.

Practicality and Features

The compact hatchback offers 15.6 cubic feet of cargo space, with an additional 4.2 cubic feet available in the 'Megabox' storage compartment located under the trunk's false floor. Optional features include a Bose premium audio system, dual-zone climate control, and LED ambient lighting, enhancing the overall cabin experience.

Availability

Currently, the Hyundai Ioniq 3 is slated for release in Europe and will not be available in the United States. However, there's a possibility that a Kia variant with similar specifications might be offered in other markets.
