What is this new high-performance Infiniti QX80?

This is Infiniti's new flagship performance SUV, designed to compete directly with models like the Cadillac Escalade-V. Based on the recently redesigned QX80, this version focuses on maximum power and handling. It is expected to revive the "Red Sport" name, signaling its position as the most powerful vehicle in Infiniti's lineup. The vehicle is a production version of the QX80 Track Spec concept shown last year.

How much power will the new QX80 have?

The performance model will be equipped with an enhanced 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. This is a significant upgrade from the standard model's 450 horsepower. Official statements confirm the output will be "north of 600 horsepower." A twin-turbocharged engine uses two turbines, spun by exhaust gases, to force more air into the engine. More air allows for more fuel to be burned, resulting in a substantial increase in power and acceleration compared to a non-turbo engine of the same size.

What other upgrades does it have besides the engine?

The vehicle is more than just a powerful engine. To manage the increased performance, it will be fitted with significant hardware upgrades. These include high-performance Brembo brakes for superior stopping power, which is critical for a large, fast SUV. The concept vehicle featured 24-inch wheels, which may carry over to the production model. It will also feature a more aggressive body kit, including a new front splitter, flared wheel arches, and quad exhaust tips, giving it a distinct look and improving aerodynamics.

When will it be available and how many will be made?

Infiniti has confirmed that this high-performance QX80 will launch before the end of this calendar year, much earlier than originally anticipated. However, obtaining one may be a challenge. Production is planned to be limited, with an estimated 600 units allocated for the U.S. market annually. Dealerships will receive allocations based on their existing QX80 sales records, making this a rare and exclusive model.
