Nissan has offered a first glimpse of its all-new Juke EV, a compact electric crossover designed to inject excitement and character back into the brand's electric vehicle lineup. Unveiled at Nissan's Vision event in Tokyo, this upcoming model signifies a crucial step in Nissan's European electrification strategy and its broader global ambition to lead in EV technology.
Nissan's commitment to a fully electric future in Europe is underscored by the introduction of the Juke EV. Massimiliano Messina, chairman of Nissan AMIEO, stated, "Europe is central to Nissan’s electrification strategy, and we remain firmly committed to a fully electric future." The Juke EV joins the Micra, third-gen Leaf, and Ariya as part of Nissan's expanding European EV portfolio, aiming to offer greater choice and innovation across various segments.
Despite the original Juke's significant sales success, Nissan is determined to infuse its successor with "emotion" and distinctive character. The brand believes that volume doesn't have to equate to a lack of excitement. The Juke EV promises to combine Nissan's latest EV technology with a fun and practical design. Clíodhna Lyons, region vice president for Nissan AMIEO, commented, "Juke has always stood for bold design and a willingness to challenge convention. With this third generation, we are bringing that spirit into the electric age."
The exterior design is striking, featuring numerous folds and creases inspired by origami, presenting a unique and engaging take on the family SUV. This bold styling aims to attract new customers and broaden the appeal of Nissan's electrified range.
While detailed specifications are still emerging, it has been confirmed that the Juke EV will be built on Nissan's dedicated electric CMF-EV platform. This platform underpins several other electric vehicles, ensuring a robust and modern foundation. Furthermore, the Juke EV will incorporate Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, allowing it to send power back to the grid, a feature already seen in the third-generation Nissan Leaf.
A significant aspect of the Juke EV's production plan is its manufacturing location. The vehicle will be produced at Nissan's Sunderland plant in the UK. This facility already plays a vital role in Nissan's European EV strategy, and the addition of the Juke EV is expected to further solidify its importance within the company's manufacturing network.
