What is the new Haval HX?

The Haval HX is the new flagship full-size SUV from Great Wall Motor's Haval brand. It is positioned as a direct competitor to established off-road vehicles like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Defender. The vehicle was officially presented ahead of the Beijing Auto Show and serves as a significant step up from the company's current models.

What kind of powertrain does it have?

The HX will launch as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). This system combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors. A PHEV allows the vehicle to run on electric power for short distances and use the gasoline engine for longer trips or more power. The HX features an all-wheel-drive system and a four-speed automatic transmission. Power specifications have not been finalized.

How does its design compare to competitors?

The exterior design shows clear inspiration from other prominent off-road SUVs. Its boxy, upright shape is similar to the Land Rover Defender and the YangWang U8. Notable design elements include large square headlights, a simple silver grille, thick pillars, and squared-off wheel arches. The rear features rectangular LED taillights and a swing-out tailgate with a spare wheel carrier, reinforcing its rugged utility.

What advanced technology is included?

The HX incorporates modern self-driving features. It is equipped with a LiDAR sensor, a system that uses laser light to measure distances and create a 3D map of the vehicle's surroundings. This technology supports Great Wall Motor’s Navigate On Autopilot function, which assists with driving on highways and in urban environments. The vehicle will also offer autonomous parking capabilities.

When will the Haval HX be available?

Customer deliveries are scheduled to start in the third quarter of this year, beginning in China. While pricing details have not yet been confirmed, there is a strong likelihood that the Haval HX will be exported to select international markets after its initial launch.
